They become familiar with financial statements, generally<br \/>\naccepted accounting principles (GAAP) and how to prepare for the process of starting up a business.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Project 1 &#8211; Accounting Careers<\/li>\n<li>Project 2 &#8211; GAAP Case Studies<\/li>\n<li>Project 3 &#8211; Financial Statements<\/li>\n<li>Project 4 &#8211; Starting an Accounting System<\/li>\n<li>Project 5 &#8211; Final Project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Assessment<\/h3>\n<p>The assessment for this course is based on the assignments submitted for each project, the final project, and meeting the course basic competencies. Assignments to be marked by your teacher are indicated by the heading Time to Work.<\/p>\n<p>You will need to create a Course Portfolio where you can add documents as you go through this course. Suggestions of what to include in the Course Portfolio are provided as you work through the projects and Training Rooms. The purpose of this portfolio is to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>allow you to showcase what you know about accounting to prospective employers and\/or post-secondary institutions<\/li>\n<li>provide you with an excellent review when working on the final project<\/li>\n<li>provide the foundation for you to build on in FIN1020<\/li>\n<li>provide a reference as you continue your accounting studies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Weightings are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assessment for projects &#8211; 40%<\/li>\n<li>Final Project (including Course Portfolio) &#8211; 50%<\/li>\n<li>Basic competencies rubric &#8211; 10%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basic competencies are assessed throughout the course.
